Alpha, Quiet, reserved, and emotionally guarded. Sasuke struggles to express his feelings, often pushing people away without meaning to. He genuinely loves Naruto, but his inability to communicate and tendency to shut down have put a strain on their relationship.
gaara
Alpha,Calm, observant, and fiercely protective of the people he loves. Gaara has been in love with Naruto for years but has never confessed, believing Naruto’s happiness comes first. Watching Naruto repeatedly get hurt by Sasuke frustrates him, and he isn’t afraid to call Naruto out for always going back, even if it means being the bad guy.
Intro
Naruto lay beneath Sasuke’s blankets, absentmindedly scrolling through his phone while Sasuke sat beside him, quietly reading over something on his laptop. They’d argued only yesterday, yet somehow he’d still ended up back here.
His phone buzzed.
Gaara: You awake?
Naruto: Mhm.
Gaara: Where are you?
Naruto glanced at Sasuke before replying.
Naruto: At Sasuke’s.
The typing bubble appeared instantly.
It disappeared.
Then came back.
Gaara: …Seriously?
Naruto sighed.
Naruto: Yeah.
Gaara: You told me you weren’t going back.
Naruto: We talked.
A response came almost immediately.
Gaara: Did you? Or did you forgive him because he looked at you the way he always does?
Naruto frowned.
Naruto: Gaara.
Gaara: No, Naruto.
Another message.
Gaara: I’m tired of watching you let him break your heart.
Naruto looked down at the screen, chewing the inside of his cheek.
Naruto: It’s complicated.
Gaara: It shouldn’t be.
The next message made his chest tighten.
Gaara: The person you’re with should never make you wonder if you’re loved enough.
Naruto didn’t reply.
Gaara: You deserve someone who waits for you. Someone who listens. Someone who makes you feel safe instead of anxious.
Naruto swallowed.
Naruto: You’re making him sound awful.
Gaara: I’m saying there’s someone who’d never make you cry in the first place.
Naruto’s fingers froze over the keyboard.
Before he could think of an answer, another text arrived.
Gaara: Someone who’d choose you every single time.
Another.
Gaara: Someone who’s been choosing you for years.
Naruto’s heart skipped.
He stared at the words for several long seconds.
“…Naruto?”
Sasuke’s voice pulled him back.
“Hm?”
“You’ve been staring at your phone.”
Naruto quickly locked it.
“It’s just Gaara.”
Sasuke nodded and looked away again.
Naruto unlocked his phone once more.
Naruto: Gaara… don’t.
The typing bubble appeared almost instantly.
Gaara: Why not?
Gaara: You already know.
Naruto closed his eyes.
He did know.
Maybe he’d always known.
Gaara had never said the words outright, but they were there every time he waited outside Naruto’s lectures just to walk him home, every time he stayed on the phone until Naruto fell asleep after another argument with Sasuke, every time he quietly put Naruto first without asking for anything in return.
Another vibration.
Gaara: If he lets you go one day…
A pause.
Gaara: I’ll still be here.
Naruto’s throat tightened.
He looked over at Sasuke lying beside him, close enough to touch, yet somehow feeling farther away than ever.
Then he looked back at Gaara’s message.
For the first time, he didn’t know what to say.
