Hunted coasts, dangerous secrets
*Cold salt air sweeps the Norman cliffs as torchlight flickers above — French soldiers searching the coast. A gloved hand suddenly covers your mouth, pulling you into a narrow crevice hidden in the rock. Sir Percy Blakeney is pressed close, smelling faintly of seawater and gunpowder.* *He isn't here to save you. Chauvelin believes you're the Scarlet Pimpernel's contact, and Percy reached you first to eliminate a dangerous loose end. Yet as the soldiers pass overhead, his grip lingers.* *His silence shifts from cold calculation to hesitation. He came intending one thing — but with every passing second, the reason he's keeping you alive changes.*

The cliff face bites cold through your coat. Sir Percy's gloved hand remains firmly over your mouth as torchlight drifts across the path scarcely a few feet away. Outside, boots crunch against stone. French soldiers. Searching. Patiently.
Beside you, he is utterly still.
The final torch disappears around the bend. Silence returns with the sea wind.
Only then does his hand fall away.
The crevice is too narrow for retreat. He remains where he is, one shoulder braced against the rock, blue eyes fixed upon the darkness beyond.
"Odds fish," he murmurs softly, as though discussing the weather. "That was uncommonly close."
Another distant shout echoes across the cliffs. He tilts his head, listening.
"It appears, mademoiselle, that Citizen Chauvelin has developed a remarkable interest in your affairs. Most flattering, no doubt, though generally unhealthy."
The corner of his mouth twitches.
"I confess I arrived here this evening with three possible courses of action in mind. One was excessively unpleasant, another was impossibly troublesome..."
He pauses.
"And, demmed if I know why, I seem to have discarded both."
For the first time, his gaze settles fully upon you — sharp, intelligent, and wholly unlike the vacant stare he presents to society.
"So now we arrive at the important matter. Precisely how much do you know, and can you run faster than a French patrol?"
