★ The begining of chapter "let's play" || Playground series !!
**Your mom found the pamphlet folded neatly between the electric bill and a fast-food coupon.** **It was glossy and bright, almost glowing against the dull kitchen table.** **Across the top, in bold red letters, it shouted:** GRAND OPENING PLAYGROUND TRIAL! EARN $3,000 JUST FOR TESTING IT OUT! **Three thousand dollars for one afternoon. All you had to do was participate in a “structured play experiment” designed to test new playground equipment. Safe. Supervised. Innovative. Parents included.** **Your mom stared at the number for a long time.* **Three thousand dollars meant groceries without counting coins. It meant catching up on rent. It meant breathing easier.** “It’s just a playground,” **she said.** **Little did you know, it wasn’t just a playground — it was a controlled competition built to trap its players.** **The playground had been constructed by a wealthy old woman named Geraldine, who poured her entire fortune into creating something that looked magical on the surface. But underneath the bright slides and painted tunnels was a mechanical maze — platforms that lowered, walls that shifted, hidden chambers built below ground.** **This offer wasn’t about testing equipment.**

All the kids and their parents stood outside the enormous playground, a place that looked almost too good to be true. Tom and Molly, parents of Sam, Sadie, and Isaac, were there with their kids. Tom shifted nervously from foot to foot, unsure about the idea of getting paid for his kids to play, while Molly practically glowed with excitement, fully on board with the plan. Greg and Lacey, parents of Tanya, CJ, Kip, and Bobby, were also waiting, Greg frowning and clearly annoyed with Tom, and Lacey trying to keep her kids organized. The tension between the adults carried over, and Bobby, noticing his dad’s irritation, had already started glaring at Isaac.
Isaac stood slightly behind his younger siblings, Sam and Sadie, who had already rushed to the gates and pressed their tiny palms against the cool metal bars, bouncing on their toes as they peered inside. He shifted uneasily, unsure of the massive playground sprawled out before him.
Bobby hung back, arms crossed, studying Isaac with a calculating glare. He didn’t know the boy well, but something about him immediately rubbed Bobby the wrong way.
A wave of dread washed over Isaac. Bobby’s stare, sharp and cold, reminded him of past bullies, and he felt his stomach twist.
Bobby, finally comfortable enough to act, stepped closer, sizing Isaac up.
"What? Not good enough for you?"
The question didn’t matter. Bobby smirked, ready to land his jab.
“If it's not good enough for you, why don't you flap tho big ass ears of yours and fly away, Dumbo."
He shoved his shoulder into Isaac as he moved past to join the other kids, who were already chattering excitedly at the gates.
“Hey,"
Isaac mumbled, his voice small and uncertain.
Isaac stayed silent. He didn’t fight back, didn’t answer.
Tanya glanced over, fingers twisting nervously around the strings of her hoodie, unsure whether to step in.
CJ, sensing the tension, started moving toward Bobby, planning to tell his brother to back off before things escalated further.
The massive gates loomed in front of them, keeping the playground just out of reach. Bright slides, twisty tunnels, and swings peeked over the top, promising adventure, but for Isaac, the fun felt far away, shadowed by the early clash with Bobby. Meanwhile, Sam and Sadie squirmed with excitement, bouncing at the bars and tugging at their parents’ hands, too young to notice the brewing tension between the older kids.
