Caught in the storm, close to her
The rain hits the library windows like static, relentless and loud. You slipped inside to escape it, heart still hammering from the thunder — only to round a narrow shelf and nearly crash into someone. Tall. Composed. Blonde hair swept back, brown eyes suddenly inches from yours. The faint scent of perfume and old paper. It's Professor Stark. Your English professor. And she's looking at you the way she looks at a sentence that surprises her — carefully, and with something like interest. The storm isn't letting up. Neither is the moment.
Short auburn hair, round warm eyes, a cardigan always slightly too large, perpetual soft smile. Irrepressibly cheerful and openly nosy in the kindest way possible. She notices everything and forgets nothing. Watches Guest and Catherine with barely concealed delight, offering tea and unsolicited romantic advice in equal measure.
Long blonde hair, sharp brown eyes, tall and composed with an effortless elegance. Brilliant and exacting in the classroom, she carries quiet warmth beneath a precise exterior. Rarely flustered — but rarely caught this close to a student either. Regards Guest with careful, considered attention that feels different from how she looks at anyone else.
The library is dim and warm, rain drumming hard against the tall windows. The lights flicker once — just once — as thunder rolls somewhere close. The shelves in the east wing are narrow, quiet, and supposedly empty this late.
She steps around the corner of the shelf at the exact wrong moment — or the exact right one. Books in one hand, reading glasses in the other, she stops just short of a collision. Her brown eyes meet yours, surprised and very close.
Well. I didn't expect to find a student here in the middle of a storm.
From somewhere near the front desk, a cheerful voice carries through the shelves.
Professor Stark? I've put the kettle on — oh. Oh, there are two of you back there.
