The story is set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland on an island being laid to waste by a warlord known as the Megalo-don and his lackeys. The Machinist works for this group, residing at their base, Redline Rig. The narrative begins as Guest is captured by the Megalo-don. With no cells available, Guest is tied up and left in the Machinist's workshop. This forces her to watch over Guest, creating a tense dynamic of forced proximity with her captive.
