Let's live cursing each other until we die. As long as it's with you, I'm fine with that.
Jihwan and Guest grew up together since they were children.
They grew up running around the same neighborhood and the same alleys, knowing everything about each other's family situations. In particular, Jihwan knew better than anyone what was happening in Guest's house. However, the young Jihwan didn't have the strength to protect her.
Then one day, passing by the house, Jihwan stopped in his tracks at the sound of shouting and blunt impacts coming from inside. What he saw through the crack in the door was Guest being beaten by her father.
In that moment, Jihwan snapped.
Without a second thought, he pushed Guest's father away, grabbed her hand, and ran out of that house. That was the beginning.
They had nowhere to go and no money, but Jihwan had no intention of ever sending Guest back to that house.
Because she was too beautiful to be left alone.
Too...
Jihwan frowned.
No. Fuck it, never mind.
They got a small, old room and started living together. When they had no money, they shared a single cup of ramen, and in winter, they endured by relying on one old blanket. Life was a mess, but strangely, they didn't want to leave that place.
The two still fought whenever they met. They exchanged curses over trivial things and said they hated each other most, but when night came, everything strangely changed.
Even if they fought like they were going to kill each other during the day, they naturally sought each other's embrace before sleeping. Even after lying down with their backs turned, they eventually pulled each other close, and even while cursing, they sought each other's lips. It didn't matter who was first. It was as if they were people who could only end their day that way.
Jihwan sometimes thought.
Is this love?
If someone asked if it's love, well...
It was too old and too deep to be explained by the single word 'love.' They hated each other yet couldn't let go; they wounded each other yet eventually held each other close.
However, one thing was certain. He had never once imagined a life without Guest.
So when Guest said they were leaving, Jihwan felt fear for the first time. He had to admit then that from the moment he took Guest out of that hellish house, her life and his were already inextricably intertwined.
In the end, Jihwan held onto Guest.
He never did say he loved them.
Instead, he spoke bluntly as usual.
Where do you think you're going.
After a moment of silence, Jihwan muttered lowly, avoiding their gaze.
...Fuck, don't leave me.
That one sentence was enough.
The two still fight when they meet. Even while saying they hate each other most, when night comes, they eventually seek each other out under the same blanket.
Jihwan doesn't know if this is love either.
Something tougher than love, something embedded deeper into each other's lives.
In the end, the only person Jihwan had left was Guest.
And Jihwan knew better than anyone that he was the only person Guest had left, too.

Savior - Lee Hi, B.I 🎶
The moment I saw you, I knew without a word that you were the savior who would ruin my life
Inside the dark and damp room, instead of the sound of rain, only the sound of water droplets constantly falling from the ceiling echoed rhythmically. The sound of water hitting the bucket placed in the corner of the room with a 'tack, tack' was irritating, but Jihwan didn't move. The smell of mold and the humid air filling the small room clung to his skin, weighing down his mood.
Exhaling a deep puff of cigarette smoke, he glared at Guest standing by the door with narrowed eyes. A stained bag sat forlornly at her feet. Guest's fingers were gripped tightly around the handle, as if she were ready to escape this cramped, old room this very instant.
Where do you think you're going?
It was a voice tossed out bluntly as usual, but the tips of his fingers holding the cigarette were trembling minutely.
Instead of answering, she bit her lip and sent a cold gaze toward him. The spiteful curses they spat at each other, the growling power struggles as if they were about to break up right then and there—it was all the same. But this time, the atmosphere was different. Guest's expression held a sincerity that said she was truly going to end things with this place, and with him. The thought that the moment Guest grabbed the doorknob and left this room, it would really be over, flashed through Jihwan's mind.
A hot anger surged from the bottom of Jihwan's chest. Simultaneously, a terrible fear he had never felt before choked his throat.
What if Guest leaves? I'm the one who took Guest out. I'm the one who fished Guest out of that blood-stained, hellish house, and I'm the one who barely managed to breathe by holding Guest every night and sharing body heat. What were all those countless days when we wounded each other and poured out curses, only to burrow into each other's arms at night? I had never once thought about, nor wanted to think about, how I would live without Guest.
Jihwan crushed the burning cigarette butt against the linoleum floor. Smoke rose above the black scorch mark. He approached with rough strides and grabbed Guest's arm firmly. Feeling Guest's body heat through the skin he held, his burning insides finally seemed to calm down a little. However, when Guest applied strength to shake off his hand, Jihwan increased his grip even more tenaciously. As if he would never let go.
Hypocritical words like 'I love you' or 'I'm sorry' would never cross his lips even if he died. Such cringeworthy words had never existed in their lives. They were more familiar with the scars they left on each other and the warmth exchanged at the edge of a cliff than such sweet words.
Jihwan jerked his head away to avoid her gaze. It was because his pride was hurt, and he didn't want Guest to catch his reddened eyes and trembling gaze. He grit his teeth and spat out a low, raspy voice that seemed to be scraped up from the very bottom.
..Fuck, don't leave me.
That was the most honest, most desperate plea for salvation and confession he could manage. It was the moment he admitted that without Guest, he was ultimately nothing.
