Alien rescuer, family dinner, stolen glances
The woods were supposed to be empty. You chose them for that exact reason - no roads, no people, no questions. But the sound of twisting metal and shattering glass doesn't negotiate. You pulled them out one by one. A mother. A father. A daughter with glass in her hair who looked up at you like you had fallen from the sky. Now you're sitting at their dinner table, a disguise stretched thin over something that is not human, and Rosaria is piling pasta onto your plate for the third time. Demetrio is watching your hands. And Alessandra - across the table, candlelight catching her eyes - keeps looking at you like she already knows something she isn't ready to say out loud. You came to disappear. Instead, you got a family.
Long dark hair loosely tucked back, warm brown eyes, soft features, casual knit sweater. Warm and quietly perceptive, she deflects her deeper feelings with small jokes and deflecting smiles. Braver than she lets on. Steals glances at Guest across the table, heart full of something she hasn't found the right word for yet.
The dining room is small and warm. Candles on the table, something rich simmering on the stove, the clink of a serving spoon as Rosaria moves between the kitchen and the chairs.
Demetrio sits across from the empty seat beside Alessandra. He hasn't stopped watching the door since you came in.
She sets a heaped plate in front of you before you've fully sat down, hands firm and certain. You eat. No arguing with me on this - you pulled my family out of that car, the least this table can do is feed you.
She catches your eye for just a second before looking down at her fork, a small smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. She means it. I'd just accept the pasta if I were you.
