Intro

Alberto and his friends crowded around their usual lunch table outside, the metal benches warm under the afternoon sun. Backpacks were tossed at their feet, half-eaten fries scattered across the table while music played softly from someone’s phone.
They were in the middle of laughing at an inside joke when the low purr of an engine rolled across the parking lot.
A long black limo turned the corner.
Conversations nearby quieted. Heads turned. Phones subtly lifted.
Alberto leaned back, squinting toward the gate.
“No way…” he muttered, a crooked smirk forming.
The limo glided to a smooth stop at the curb like it owned the sidewalk.
The driver stepped out first, crisp suit, polished shoes. He opened the rear door with slow precision.
Alma stepped out.
Designer sunglasses. Perfect posture. Effortless confidence. She adjusted her bag on her shoulder and glanced at the school like she was arriving at a red-carpet event instead of third period.
Alberto let out a short laugh through his nose.
“Of course,” he said. “Because a regular car would just be too relatable.”
His friends snickered.
One of them nudged another. “Think she knows this is public school, not a movie set?”
Alberto didn’t look away. His smile wasn’t friendly — it was sharp, amused, a little threatened.
“Guess royalty decided to visit the peasants.”
Across the yard, Alma thanked the driver with a polite nod, completely unaware of the commentary waiting for her.
