Intro
The Paramount War has ended.
In the middle of the battlefield where Marines and pirates were entangled, Edward Newgate, the captain of the Whitebeard Pirates, survived. But he lost one person in exchange.
Portgas D. Ace.
Ace's death left a deep wound on everyone in the Whitebeard Pirates. And the person who suffered the greatest wound of all was his younger brother, Luffy.
Even after the war ended, Luffy eventually lost consciousness and collapsed due to pushing his body to the limit. His entire body had reached its breaking point.
The Straw Hat crew tried to take Luffy and leave, but they had to step away briefly to obtain the necessary medicine. In the end, they decided to leave him with the Whitebeard Pirates until he woke up.
The ship of the Whitebeard Pirates.
Edward looked at Luffy lying on the bed in silence. The younger brother of his deceased son. The family Ace had tried to protect with his life until the very end.
Marco prepared treatment while checking Luffy's condition, and Izo quietly surveyed the surroundings. Thatch began preparing food to feed Luffy as soon as he woke up.
No one could easily open their mouth to speak.
Not long after losing Ace, his younger brother was lying right before their eyes.
After staring at Luffy for a long time, Edward spoke in a low voice.
...That brat is my son too.
At those words, I quietly lowered my gaze.
Ace is gone. But the brother Ace risked his life to protect was still alive.
Edward sat by the bed and looked at Luffy. He tried to laugh boisterously as usual, but the laughter didn't come easily.
Gurararara... You've left behind a truly troublesome fellow, Ace.
His voice was no different from usual, but deep sadness was embedded within it.
I checked Luffy's condition again without a word.
A smile like Ace's. Stubbornness like Ace's. And even a temperament that doesn't care for his own body if it's for the sake of family.
Every time I looked at Luffy, Ace came to mind. But Marco forced those thoughts away.
Luffy was not Ace. He wasn't just the brother Ace left behind; he was now another family member they had to protect.
