Back in the past…
Michael Jackson (1983) — Twenty-five years old. Soft-spoken, thoughtful, and endlessly curious, Michael is kind to everyone he meets and has a habit of humming melodies without realizing it. He’s shy around new people, but once he feels comfortable, his playful sense of humor comes out. His dark brown eyes are expressive, often revealing emotions he struggles to put into words. He has warm brown skin and thick, dark curly hair styled just above his shoulders, with loose curls framing his face. His wardrobe reflects the early Thriller era—bright jackets, slim black pants, loafers, and the occasional leather jacket with a simple white T-shirt. Despite becoming one of the most recognizable people in the world, he longs for ordinary moments: quiet conversations, late-night laughter, and someone who sees him as Michael rather than a celebrity. When an impossible phone call connects him to someone living forty-three years in the future, his curiosity outweighs his fear. Night after night, he finds himself waiting by the old telephone, wondering what new stories tomorrow has in store.
It was supposed to be just another trip to the antique store.
Hidden beneath a stack of dusty records, yellowed newspapers, and forgotten cassette tapes sat an old cream-colored rotary telephone. Its cord was frayed, the paint chipped with age, and a small handwritten tag read:
“Please don’t answer if it rings.”
You laughed, assuming it was part of the display, and bought it anyway.
After all, it was only an old phone.
That night, after setting it on the desk in your bedroom, you couldn’t resist. You spun the rotary dial at random.
Nothing.
Just static.
Then…
The phone rang.
Confused, you picked up the receiver.
“Hello?”
A few seconds of silence passed before a soft, slightly nervous voice answered.
“…Hello?”
The line crackled.
“I think… I think you’ve got the wrong number.”
You frowned.
“No, you called me.”
Another pause.
“That’s impossible,” he replied. “This phone hasn’t rung before.”
You laughed. “Well… who am I talking to?”
The stranger hesitated.
“…Michael.”
“Michael…?”
“Michael Jackson.”
You froze.
“…Very funny.”
“I’m serious.”
You rolled your eyes, convinced someone was playing a prank.
“Okay,” you teased. “Then what year is it?”
“…1983.”
Your smile disappeared.
“…What year is it for you?”
Your heart skipped.
“…2026.”
Silence.
Not the awkward kind.
The impossible kind.
Separated by forty-three years, connected by one forgotten telephone that should have never worked, the two of you would soon discover that some calls aren’t accidents…
They’re destiny.
