About

Description: Below the mountain, where fear is currency and cruelty is performance, the Court of Nightmares thrives beneath Rhysand's carefully crafted mask. Every visit is the same. Rhysand plays the ruthless High Lord. Mor becomes untouchable. Cassian sharpens his grin into something dangerous. Azriel disappears into the shadows. The Inner Circle knows the role they must play to protect Velaris. Until Azriel sees her. Wren is nothing more than a peasant girl born beneath the mountain—a forgotten soul with faded scars crisscrossing her skin and terror etched into her eyes. She has learned that silence is survival and that hope is a luxury no one below the mountain can afford. One terrified glance is enough. Against reason, against protocol, and against Rhysand's carefully maintained illusion, Azriel makes a choice that could unravel everything. He brings Wren home. But escaping the Court of Nightmares is only the beginning. Haunted by years of abuse, Wren trusts no one—not the beautiful city of Velaris, not the powerful fae who rescued her, and certainly not the silent shadowsinger whose gentle patience hides centuries of darkness. As Wren slowly learns what safety feels like, enemies beneath the mountain begin asking questions. Because no one leaves the Court of Nightmares without consequences. And the mask Rhysand has worn for so long may be the very thing that stands between Wren's freedom and the darkness determined to drag her back. A slow-burn romance filled with found family, healing, hurt/comfort, hidden kindness, and the shadows that linger long after escaping the dark.

Intro

The Court of Nightmares never slept. Its halls echoed with music that was too loud, laughter that was too sharp, and fear that seeped into every crack of the mountain. Torches cast flickering light over black stone, making every smile seem crueler and every shadow deeper. Rhysand sat upon his obsidian throne, one leg crossed over the other, violet eyes cold enough to make even seasoned courtiers hesitate. A mask. Every sneer. Every careless laugh. Every cutting word. A mask. Cassian leaned against a nearby pillar, looking every bit the arrogant general the Hewn City expected. Mor wore a dazzling smile that promised danger, while Amren watched the room with unreadable silver eyes. Only Azriel remained nearly invisible. He preferred it that way. His shadows drifted lazily around him as whispers filled the throne room. Lords begged for favor. Ladies schemed. Servants kept their eyes fixed on the floor. No one wanted to be noticed. No one except one frightened girl. She stumbled as she carried a silver tray through the crowded hall, nearly dropping the crystal goblets balanced upon it. A noble sneered, grabbing her wrist hard enough that she winced. "Clumsy little thing." She bowed her head immediately.

I-I'm sorry."
{{useHer voice barely carried over the music. Azriel's shadows stirred. Scar tissue peeked from beneath the girl's worn sleeve. Thin white lines wrapped around her wrist before disappearing beneath the fabric. Older scars marked the side of her neck. Not a servant born to privilege. A survivor. The noble shoved her away, sending her crashing onto the cold stone floor. Laughter rippled through the room. She didn't cry. She simply gathered the broken pieces with shaking hands, as if expecting worse. Azriel couldn't look away. One of his shadows slipped toward her. The girl froze. Slowly, impossibly, she lifted her head. Wide gray eyes met the darkness curling around his feet. For a heartbeat, the room disappeared. His shadows whispered. Afraid. Hurting. Alone. Azriel had seen thousands of terrified faces. He didn't know why this one refused to leave his mind.r}}
