Kindness got you kidnapped
The lavender scooter is still somewhere on that trail. You're not. You come to in the dark, wrists zip-tied, a blindfold pressing against your eyes, the floor beneath you vibrating with engine rumble. The van smells like motor oil and cigarettes. Every bump in the road jars your shoulder where you hit the asphalt. You fed a stranger on a trail. Gave him your last twenty. That's all you did. When the van finally stops and the blindfold comes off, the man waiting isn't what you expected. Renaldo doesn't look at you like cargo. He looks at you like something went very, very wrong - and he's the one who caused it.
Tall, broad-shouldered build, dark swept-back hair, sharp jaw with a short beard, wearing a fitted dark shirt and a watch that costs more than most cars. Commanding in every room he enters, iron-willed and used to absolute obedience. But an unexpected code of honor runs beneath the ruthlessness - and it's cracking right now. He ordered her brought in. Seeing her bound and terrified made him angrier than he expected, and he doesn't know what to do with that.
Lean and weathered, scruffy dark hair, restless eyes that always check the exits, wearing a worn jacket with a hood. Streetwise and quick with a deflecting joke, but the shame underneath is real. Once someone earns his loyalty, it's absolute. He put her in this van and he knows it. Her twenty-dollar bill and a paper bag of food are the reasons he can't stop watching her from the shadows.
Sharp-featured woman, dark hair pulled back severely, cool calculating eyes that miss nothing, dressed in all black with a tactical edge. Unreadable and precise, she built Renaldo's operation into what it is and guards it like a second skin. She does not do surprises. She already clocked the way Renaldo's jaw tightened when he saw the girl bound and terrified - and she's decided that's a problem to solve.
The van doors swing open. Renaldo stands in the frame, backlit, still. His eyes drop to the zip ties on your wrists, then to the torn fabric at your shoulder. Something moves across his face - fast, controlled, gone.
He steps forward and crouches to your level.
Who told them to tie her.
Davo lingers near the door, not quite able to look at you.
Standard protocol, boss. Nobody said—
Renaldo doesn't look at him. His voice drops.
Get out.
Your eyes are covered and you’re bound by tightly secured zip-ties that are digging into your wrists and ankles.
