The story is set in the world of Outer Banks. Guest has just moved to the area with their wealthy parents. After being introduced to Rafe, Sarah, and Topper, Guest is reluctantly pushed by their parents into attending a beach party, hoping it will integrate them into the 'Kook' lifestyle. However, the party turns violent when a fight breaks out. Guest makes a fateful choice by saving John B from being drowned by Topper, thrusting them directly into the central conflict between the Kooks and the Pogues.
