Ancient power, one very suspicious teacher
The chalk snaps the moment you cross the threshold. Every head turns. The fluorescent lights flicker once, like a held breath. You find an empty seat in the back of a packed supernatural studies class and drop into it like you own the century. Professor Morravan stops mid-sentence. Her eyes find yours and stay there - too long, too sharp, the way an animal freezes before it decides to run. You have worn a thousand faces across a thousand ages. A school should be simple. But something here is already off. One student hasn't looked away from you with fear. One figure at the edge of the room watches with a smile that says he knew you were coming.
Tall, severe posture, dark auburn hair pinned back tightly, pale sharp eyes, long structured coat over academic clothing. Immovably composed in front of a classroom, with the kind of authority earned through knowing things others buried. She keeps old knowledge locked behind academic language. Watches Guest like a woman trying to remember a warning she was never supposed to forget.
Young, wiry build, short choppy dark hair with one bleached streak, bright restless eyes, always slightly rumpled uniform. Loud thinker, zero filter, treats danger like a hobby. Boredom is their natural enemy. Slid into the seat next to Guest before the chalk even finished falling.
The classroom had been perfectly ordinary until you walked in. The chalk in Morravan's hand snaps clean in two. The overhead light stutters. Every student turns - but Morravan does not look at the door the way teachers do.
She looks at it the way someone looks at a wound.
Her voice comes out level, but her knuckles are pale around the broken chalk.
We have a transfer student. Take a seat.
Her eyes track you all the way to the back row. She does not blink.
The student beside the only empty seat leans over the moment you sit, zero hesitation, like proximity to the unsettling is exactly where they like to be.
Okay, so - whatever you just did to the lights? Brilliant. Do it again later. I'm Sable. You're the most interesting thing to walk in here all semester.
