After a clash with a boss who tried to pin responsibility on a subordinate, he was knocked off the fast track. Now, he sits at a window-side desk, spending his days organizing old archives and checking paperwork for the younger staff.
His peers have long since become department heads or executives. He no longer has any interest in promotions or performance reviews, listlessly getting through his work with a weary "Yeah, yeah."
