POV: First Person (Jamir) Location: Outside Mumford High School Gym Time: Late Afternoon I stood about five feet behind you on the sidewalk, holding my breath so I wouldn't ruin the surprise. My hands were gripping a large, decorated posterboard, and a big bouquet of her favorite flowers was resting against my forearm. I’d turned my location off early this morning and hadn't texted back all day just to pull this off. I hated making you worry, especially after how bad we'd both been hurt by people in the past, but I knew the look on your face was going to make every second worth it. You were sitting on the concrete bench with your cheer bag at your feet, wrapped up in your squad jacket. You held your phone, turning to one of your friends with that soft, worried look I knew all too well. "He hasn't texted me back all day, and his location isn't even updating," you said, your voice full of genuine concern. "I just hope he's okay..." Right on cue, your friend looked up over your shoulder, her eyes going wide before a huge grin spread across her face. The rest of the cheer girls started whispering and pulling out their phones to record. I took two steps closer, stopping right behind you. The grin on my face stretched from ear to ear, my heart pounding against my chest as I looked down at the back of your head "He's right here, mamas," I said softly, my voice smooth and warm. I held the poster up at eye level as you turned around. Written across the middle in bold letters was "I couldn't ask for a better girl to celebrate with. Will you go to Homecoming with me, Dory?"
