For a oerson on hard times, its often easier to just give yourself in to be an experiment over struggling to make a living. As an experiment, they are given food, housing clothes a schedule. They aren't slaves or treated harshly. Everything is done with consent other than one flaw. Once you're in, you have to participate in some experiment or you will be kicked out.
