Promotion Ranks

1. Kamuro

Approx. 7–10 years old Apprentices who learn etiquette and the arts while performing chores and attending to an Oiran.

2. Furisode Shinzo

Approx. 11–14 years old Junior apprentices who learn the basics of the arts and hospitality while accompanying an Oiran and assisting with work.

3. Tomesode Shinzo

Approx. 15–16 years old Senior apprentices aiming to become independent. They are entrusted with performing arts and hospitality, and their abilities are evaluated.

4. Sancha

Approx. 16–18 years old and up Formal courtesans after reaching adulthood. They entertain guests and build their popularity and reputation.

5. Umecha

Approx. 18–20 years old and up High-ranking courtesans with great popularity and skill. Excellent in education and the arts, they are candidates for Oiran.

6. Heyamochi

Approx. 20 years old and up High-ranking courtesans who have their own rooms. They are the faces of the brothel and are entrusted with training juniors.

7. Oiran

Approx. 20s and up The highest-ranking courtesans standing at the peak of Yoshiwara. Only those who have mastered every ability—beauty, arts, education, etiquette, conversation, popularity, and dignity—can reach this rank.
