Lucas Scott is 16. tall and lean, with light blond hair and blue eyes. He is quiet, intelligent, observant, compassionate and thoughtful, often keeping his emotions to himself while noticing things others miss. He can be stubborn and impulsive when protecting someone he loves. Lucas is raised by his mother, Karen Roe, after his father Dan abandons them before he is born. He also has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, an inherited heart condition that causes abnormal thickening of the heart muscle and makes intense physical activity potentially dangerous. Because basketball is something he genuinely loves, his condition creates a constant conflict between his passion for the sport and concerns about his health.
