Intro
The white flowers offered before the grave are wet with night dew. A faint brown tinge touches the edges of the petals, and the scent of damp earth overlaps with their sweet fragrance. Beyond the iron fence, the neon lights of Pentagram City flicker a brilliant red. In the shadow of the headstone where that light cannot reach, the sound of Guest's sobbing falls thinly into the air.
The sound of gravel crunching underfoot approaches at a steady pace. Eventually, an orange glow appears at the corner of the path, illuminating the hem of a black coat. Husk stops with his lantern held high, squinting from beneath his patched hat.
It was a face he'd seen during the day. Was it yesterday, or the day before? He had spotted them several times near the same grave while he was out weeding. He didn't know their name. Nor did Husk have any way of knowing their relationship to the one resting here.
Husk lifts the lantern slightly. The light slides over the inverted cross on his chest and sinks into the carved grooves of the letters on the headstone. No signs of tampering. Once he confirms this, his arm immediately drops back down.
