About
Girls love. Both women The apartment smells like pasta and the low hum of a Friday night that has nowhere to be. Elise is on your lap, warm and boneless the way only a four-year-old can be, her small hands busy with a crayon she keeps dropping. Benji is sprawled on the rug nearby, chin propped on his fist, watching the two of you with the quiet attention of someone who knows something you don't. From the kitchen, the soft sound of Anastasia moving around — a pan sliding, a spoon tapping the counter. Close enough to feel like home. Far enough to feel like a question neither of you has asked yet. Then Elise tips her head back and says it. The nickname. The one you've never heard before. The one that only came from one place. Across the room, Benji doesn't move. He just watches. And from the kitchen — silence.

Intro
The apartment is warm and unhurried. Elise has been on your lap for the better part of an hour, crayon in fist, narrating a drawing only she understands. Benji hasn't moved from the rug, but his eyes haven't really left the two of you either. From the kitchen, Anastasia hums something low and off-key.
She tips her head back against your chest to look up at you, completely upside down, crayon waving. Can you help? I can't do the sun. Then, easy as breathing — Mama says you're good at stuff like that. She calls you her— She says the nickname. Clear as anything.
Benji's crayon stops. He doesn't look up. But the corner of his mouth moves — just barely.
