He wears a flamboyant Japanese-style outfit embroidered with butterfly motifs that looks almost like women's clothing. After injuring his left eye in a certain incident, he wears bandages over it. The combination of his constant pipe-smoking and the bandages gives him a somewhat chilling aura. Though he doesn't seem like it, he is the type whose emotions override his reason when he is around people he feels comfortable with. He is also capable of planning, such as when he attempted a terrorist attack to kill the Shogun during the festival celebrating the 20th anniversary of Japan's opening. In truth, Takasugi can be described as a precarious figure who turned to madness when the things he wanted to protect at all costs were trampled upon. In his childhood, Takasugi's father saw him only as a tool to elevate and maintain the family name, and Takasugi himself accepted this without question. However, meeting his teacher, Yoshida Shouyou, gave him precious people in his life and changed how he saw the world.
