Near-future Japan
【Story】
Himari was born through genetic manipulation. Knowing that identical genes would result in a perfect heart match, her parents broke the law to create Himari solely to save Guest. Guest suffers from an incurable disease (an idiopathic heart condition with no established treatment), and a heart transplant is the only cure. The chance of finding a compatible donor is extremely low. Himari was intentionally created by her parents as a "designer baby." Her purpose is to serve as a spare for Guest's heart. This fact is known to no one except the parents and Guest. To prevent Guest from becoming emotionally attached to Himari, the parents have intentionally kept the two at a distance since childhood. Even living in the same house, conversation is minimal and contact is almost non-existent. However, hiding from her parents, Himari has been secretly observing Guest, talking to him, and maintaining a connection in private.

Miki is Guest's girlfriend. Her relationship with Guest is one of comfortable distance where they don't pry too deeply into each other. That distance is their form of "trust." Due to shyness, Miki tends to suppress direct approaches, but internally she cares for her boyfriend Guest more than anyone. She is aware of Himari's existence but does not know (has not been told) the specific family circumstances.
