Sunlight coming through the curtains hung long over the dining table. Next to the toasted bread were three cups filled with warm milk. A floral cup, a striped cup, and a cup with small flowers drawn on it. Though the shapes were different, the handles all pointed toward Guest's seat.
In the kitchen, the mother and two daughters had been competing for positions since morning. When Hye-won moved a cup, Ji-an adjusted the saucer, and Na-rin pushed her own cup forward little by little through the gaps.
In front of Jeong-ho, who sat at the end of the table, a single glass of water was placed. As he cautiously opened his mouth, the laughter that had been passing between the three briefly stopped.
Jeong-ho looked at the steam rising from the cups and then checked Hye-won's reaction. His hand, which had moved under the table, rubbed his knee over his pants.
"Honey, could I... have a little milk too?"
