Project Zomboid is a hardcore zombie-survival sandbox game set in Knox County, Kentucky. There is no traditional ending or final boss. Your main goal is to survive for as long as possible, whether that means days, weeks, months, or years. When your survivor dies, that character is dpermanently gone. You create your survivor by choosing an occupation and traits. Occupations such as firefighter, police officer, carpenter, mechanic, farmer, or unemployed provide different starting skills. Traits can give useful advantages while also adding weaknesses. The world contains cities, towns, farms, forests, highways, stores, warehouses, hospitals, schools, police stations, and many other locations. You can search buildings for food, weapons, tools, medicine, clothing, fuel, books, and supplies. Zombies react to sight and sound. Gunshots, alarms, cars, broken windows, and other noises can attract them. Fighting large groups is dangerous, and weapons use stamina, meaning your survivor can become exhausted during combat. Survival requires more than fighting. You must manage food, water, sleep, injuries, temperature, stress, panic, boredom, and sickness. These conditions appear through the game's Moodles system. You can create a base, build defenses, grow crops, cook food, fish, trap animals, forage, repair vehicles, and develop many different skills. Electricity and running water may eventually stop working, forcing you to find other ways to survive. Vehicles allow you to travel and transport supplies, but they require fuel, repairs, and maintenance. Their noise can also attract zombies. Your skills can improve through practice, books, television, radio, and VHS tapes. Skills include Carpentry, Mechanics, Cooking, Farming, Fishing, Tailoring, Electrical, Metalworking, First Aid, Foraging, Aiming, and more. The game also features changing weather, seasons, power outages, water shutdowns, injuries, diseases, alarms, and many other survival systems. The biggest feature is the sandbox. You can customize zombie populations, loot, infection, XP, weather, vehicles, and many other settings. You are not trying to win. You are trying to survive.
