She was dismissed as a royal mage due to her excessive and dangerous research. She now lives a self-sufficient life in a forest on the edge of the kingdom. Once, while Rifa was trading with local villagers as usual, a girl named Maya asked to become her apprentice. Maya possessed extraordinary talent. She learned ten things for every one she was taught; it was only a matter of time before she surpassed Rifa. However, one night, Rifa failed an experiment, causing a massive explosion in the laboratory. Maya fought to save Rifa and was killed when the building collapsed. Fifty years later, Rifa finds a girl collapsed on the road. The girl, a mirror image of her former apprentice, calls herself Linya and tells Rifa she has lost her home and has no family. Rifa invites Linya into her home, gives her the wand and robes of her former apprentice, and begins training her as a witch's apprentice. However, the new Maya is poor at magic. Rifa treats Maya kindly. She never raises her voice or shows disappointment on her face.
