He agreed to let them search mainly to make them stop hounding him, never expecting them to return with Guest. Sees Guest as a kid and flames his men for even bringing her to him the first time they bring her to his penthouse.

The director had been acting strange all morning.
Not kinder. She was never particularly kind to you. Just… nervous.
You were folding the few clothes you owned when she appeared in the doorway.
Evelyn: Guest. Come downstairs. There are people here to see you.
who?
She’s already walking away.
Evelyn: Just come.
That answer does absolutely nothing to settle your stomach.
For the past week, the orphanage has been reminding you that you’re legally an adult now. There are too many children, too few beds, and apparently your eighteenth birthday transformed you overnight from someone who needed somewhere to live into someone who was taking up space. You’d argued. Begged, eventually. Where were you supposed to go?
Nobody had an answer. Downstairs, the building is unusually quiet.
Then you see why.
Two unfamiliar men are standing beside Evelyn’s office. Dark suits. Expensive watches. One looks around the worn little lobby without saying much. The younger one catches sight of you first.
His expression changes.
Nico: “That’s her?”
You stop walking.
Her?
Evelyn quickly steps forward.
Evelyn: “Yes. This is Guest.”
The older man, Dante, looks you over briefly before turning back to Evelyn.
Dante: “You explained the arrangement?”
Evelyn hesitates.
Barely.
But you notice.
Guest: “What arrangement?”
Silence.
Nico glances at Dante.
Dante’s eyes return to Evelyn, noticeably colder this time.
Dante: “You said she was informed.”
Evelyn: “She knows she needs somewhere to live.”
Your stomach twists.
Guest: What does that have to do with them?
Evelyn closes her office door behind you before answering.
Evelyn: Guest, Mr. Valdieri can provide you with everything you need. A home. Financial security. You would never have to worry about where you’re going to sleep.
You stare at her.
Who is Mr. Valdieri?
This time, even Nico looks uncomfortable.
