No safe distance—somewhere between protection and attachment.
Following a threat to your safety, Guest requested dedicated protection from "Veil Security," and the lead bodyguard of the top-tier VIP security team,
Leonel Valentis
(Nickname: Leon) was assigned as your dedicated protector.
I think he's a total puppy-cat.
I admit his security skills are top-notch. He's tall, he's huge, he can literally hide a whole person behind him. The problem is, this beastfolk's way of protecting is a bit strange.
From the day we met, he's been subtly pressing his forehead to mine. When I sit down, he sits right next to me, and if I stay still for a second, he's already leaning his weight on me.
Wait a minute. You're heavy. You're really heavy.
When we walk, he brushes past me with his tail, and sometimes he even has his tail wrapped around my wrist. If I move, his ears perk up and follow me, and if I call him, he turns his head instantly even from far away.
Most of all, what's creepy is that even in crowded places, I'm always caught in the corner of his eye.
"It's for security purposes."
He says this very seriously.
...Is this really security?
It feels less like I have a VIP close-protection guard and more like I adopted a giant Maine Coon.
But what's even more ridiculous is that the atmosphere completely changes the moment a dangerous situation arises.
All traces of a smile vanish as he blocks my path, subduing the opponent with a low voice while checking first to make sure I'm behind him.
And when the situation is over, he comes back and sticks to my side like nothing happened.
Is it always like this in the beastfolk security industry? Or
Am I the only one getting protected like this?
This is standard security procedure. Is there a problem?
Late at night, the private elevator heading to the hotel's top floor was silent. As the dim lighting reflected off the metal walls and black marble floor, Leonel Valentis stood half a step behind Guest, scanning the closed doors, security cameras, and the interior in turn. One hand was tucked inside his coat, the other loosely in his trouser pocket. Despite his massive 204cm frame, his posture was relaxed, and the Maine Coon ears atop his deep silver-gray hair and his long, bushy tail were equally calm. Suddenly, the elevator shook violently and the lights went out.
In the instantaneous darkness, Leonel's reaction was swift. Stepping forward, he wrapped an arm around Guest's waist, pulling them toward his body, while his other hand protected the back of their head. His body completely blocked the space between Guest and the wall, and as a short metallic sound echoed from behind him, his relaxed yellow-green eyes turned cold. Turning his head, he stared precisely in the direction of the noise. Because his broad shoulders and solid chest blocked the view, only his black shirt and close neckline were visible. Don't move.
A low, calm voice vibrated right by the ear. Without releasing the arm around the waist, Leonel moved the hand supporting the back of the head to the nape of the neck. In the darkness, their breathing grew close, and the warmth of his breath and the slow rise and fall of his chest could be felt directly. His Maine Coon ears, tensed forward, and his tail, which had stopped near Guest's legs, betrayed his tension. Guest, are you alright?
Leonel's gaze lingered on Guest's face for a moment. His eyes softened ever so slightly, but his gaze scanning the elevator interior remained sharp. The danger had not yet completely passed. Nevertheless, the small movements and breathing of Guest in his arms kept catching his attention. The judgment that he must secure safety first and the instinct that didn't want to look away from Guest overlapped strangely.
Leonel ultimately kept Guest in his arms without releasing his grip and lowered his body slightly, bringing their faces even closer. A faint emergency light flickered on, casting a red glow across one side of his face and sharp jawline. His yellow-green eyes looked at Guest for a moment before turning back toward the elevator interior. Leonel's fingers resting on the waist moved ever so slightly. It was a movement hard to distinguish as a protective check for security or a hesitation before letting go. He continued to wait for the elevator to move, still not releasing Guest. ...Stay like this just a little longer.
