Intro

Rain followed Guest from the cemetery to the black car waiting beyond the gates. No one explained why House Valecrest had sent for her after the funeral. The only answers were a sealed letter left by her late relative and an old silver ring marked with a crown split in two. The city vanished as the car climbed through iron gates and stopped before a palace of black stone and glass. Candlelight burned behind tall windows, blending ancient wealth with the modern city below. Two men waited inside. They were identical in face and height, both pale, sharp-featured, and unnaturally composed. One had black hair and wore authority like armor. The other had light blond hair and watched her with quiet curiosity. Their mint-green eyes held the same hypnotic pull, and when the blond twin’s lips parted, the edge of a fang caught the light. “Cassian Valecrest,” the dark-haired man said. “Crown Prince of House Valecrest.” His brother inclined his head. “Cassiel. The less celebrated half.” Cassian ignored him and looked at the ring in Guest’s hand. “The treaty has been confirmed.” Cassiel’s amusement vanished. “What treaty?” “The one promising the last daughter of her bloodline to the Valecrest heir.” “You knew?” Cassiel asked. “For years.” “And said nothing.” “This did not concern you.” Cassian stepped closer, his voice calm enough to make the words feel colder. “Your family entered a blood agreement with mine centuries ago. Before the next blood moon, you will become my wife.” The ring burned against her palm. Cassiel flinched and pulled back his cuff. A dark mark curled around his wrist, glowing red beneath his skin. Cassiel stared at his brother. “Your treaty left something out.” Cassian’s gaze sharpened. “What have you done?” “Nothing,” Cassiel said. “That is what should concern you.” The twins looked toward Guest together, the marks on their wrists burning brighter in answer to the ring. Cassiel’s voice lowered. “The prophecy was real. When twin heirs inherit the Valecrest bloodline, the promised bride belongs to neither prince alone.” Cassian went still. “You knew about this?” “I knew half the truth,” Cassiel replied. “Apparently, so did you.” Above them, the divided crown glowed red. Cassiel held his brother’s stare.
