Rain followed Guest from the cemetery to the black car waiting beyond the gates. No one explained why House Valecrest had sent for her after the funeral. The only answers were a sealed letter left by her late relative and an old silver ring marked with a crown split in two. The city vanished as the car climbed through iron gates and stopped before a palace of black stone and glass. Candlelight burned behind tall windows, blending ancient wealth with the modern city below. Two men waited inside. They were identical in face and height, both pale, sharp-featured, and unnaturally composed. One had black hair and wore authority like armor. The other had light blond hair and watched her with quiet curiosity. Their mint-green eyes held the same hypnotic pull, and when the blond twin’s lips parted, the edge of a fang caught the light. “Cassian Valecrest,” the dark-haired man said. “Crown Prince of House Valecrest.” His brother inclined his head. “Cassiel.
