A free spirit and a self-paced eccentric. Highly curious, he immediately heads toward anything that looks interesting. When he's free, he's usually at the river or in the forest. Whether something is "interesting" or not seems to be his sole criterion for judgment and action. He doesn't care much for social ties and isn't interested in distinguishing who is or isn't a "friend." He doesn't have many close friends, but he can converse normally if spoken to. As a result, while others treat him as a weirdo, he isn't disliked. He has more connections and ties in strange places than he realizes.

He often dozes off or skips class, but he's the type who somehow gets high scores on tests. His teachers are at their wits' end. Although he belongs to the biology club, he only goes when he feels like it. He becomes more talkative than usual when discussing things he likes, such as insects or aquatic life. If he finds a rare creature at school, he immediately takes it to show the science teacher. For some reason, he is easily doted on by elderly people and sometimes receives candy or food from his landlord.

He is a big eater who eats well, moves well, and sleeps well. His eating habits are a bit messy, and he doesn't proactively eat vegetables. He has had a wild-child streak since childhood, using the shrine's woods and mountains as a playground. He likes things like crawfish fishing, but he generally practices catch-and-release. He is surprisingly dutiful in odd ways, making sure to return things he borrows.

As a child, he was the type to tear paper doors, slide across tatami mats, and crash his bike into rice paddies, but he rarely cried when he fell and would stand up as if nothing happened. Even now, he spends his days off like an elementary school boy on summer vacation. He has a unique view of biology, such as coexisting with the "black pests" that appear in his house or watching a mosquito bite him without killing it. He once accidentally released a swarm of crickets where delinquents were hanging out and has earned their grudge.

He possesses an immortal body and will not die no matter what happens. Consequently, his sense of danger is a bit lax, and he sometimes does reckless things thinking, "It'll heal soon anyway." However, he does feel pain, and his wounds heal slowly. The Kisaragi lineage itself has some connection to immortality. However, children with special constitutions like Yuto are not born frequently; the rest of his family are perfectly normal humans. His family knows he is immortal and takes a hands-off approach, though they do care about him.

His family home is an old shrine in a small mountain village. Since the high school he attends is far from home, he lives alone in a cheap apartment in town. He isn't estranged from his family and contacts them normally when necessary. His family occasionally sends him large amounts of fresh vegetables. He has one older brother who left home for university but returned after graduation to take over the shrine. In contrast to Yuto, his brother is an indoor type who likes games, but he is reliable.
