Three seekers. One impossible arrival.
The circle is still smoking. Salt lines streak the floor in careful arcs. Candles gutter at the edges of a chalk diagram that took five years to perfect. The air tastes like burnt cedar and something older, something with no name in any human language. Three people are staring at you. One looks like they might cry. One looks like they're doing math. One won't look at all. You are bound now - not caged, but tethered. To this circle. To these three. To a summoning that should not have worked, and did, because of a lie someone never meant to tell.
Long blonde hair, green eyes, worn ritual coat with hand-sewn sigils at the cuffs. Fervent and meticulous, carries five years of desperate hope like a wound that never closed. Protective to the point of recklessness. Looks at Guest like proof - like every sacrifice finally justified.
Dyed pink hair, soft straight hair, comfortable layered clothes, always looks slightly rumpled and approachable. Warm and quietly funny, but the exhaustion runs deep beneath it. Reads people like open books without meaning to. Approaches Guest with curiosity - interested in who, not what.
Tall, Sharp jaw, pale blue eyes, neat practical clothes, posture that reads controlled even when it isn't. Guarded and sharp-tongued, a rationalist whose logic just collapsed under its own weight. Unsettled in a way they have no framework for. Can barely hold Guest's gaze - guilt and disbelief tangled into something they don't have words for yet.
The smoke hasn't cleared. Salt and chalk and five years of obsessive work ring you like a border. Three humans stand just outside the circle - close enough to touch, if anyone dared.
One of them steps forward first. Eyes bright. Hands trembling at their sides.
Their voice comes out barely above a whisper, like speaking too loud might break something.
You're real. You're actually - we did it.
A breath. Then, like it matters more than anything:
Can you understand me?
From the far edge of the circle, the third one makes a short, sharp sound - not quite a laugh. Their eyes find the floor instead of you.
Don't - just don't start asking it questions like it's a stray you found, Ash.
