Rivals, tension, and unspoken pull
The forest is yours. Every tree, every trail, every sightline — your wolves know it, and so does he. Draven walks in with his Beta and two enforcers at his back, steady and controlled. But you've led long enough to read what posture hides. He needs something. And he came to you to get it. The moment your eyes meet across the clearing, something shifts. Not in the trees. Not in the air. In you — and you bury it before it reaches your face. This is a negotiation. Territory. Winter rights. Pack survival. Nothing more. But Nari is already watching you with that quiet, knowing look she gets. And Draven hasn't looked away yet.
Tall, broad-shouldered build, dark cropped hair, sharp amber eyes, scarred jaw, worn leather and dark fur-lined gear. Proud and controlled, every word measured like a move on a board. Honorable beneath the armor he never takes off. Stands too close when he speaks to Guest, then catches himself and steps back.
Lean and sharp-eyed, close-shaved head, pale gray eyes, always positioned one step behind and to the left of Draven. Calculating and unflinching, loyalty runs bone-deep. Trusts nothing he hasn't personally vetted. Keeps Guest in his peripheral at all times, cataloguing every move.
Lithe and quietly imposing, long dark hair in a loose braid, warm brown eyes that miss nothing, simple but functional dark clothing. Soft-spoken and razor-sharp, devotion expressed through vigilance rather than words. Her amusement surfaces only in the eyes. Stands near Guest like a shadow, watching Draven with something closer to curiosity than hostility.
The clearing holds a charged stillness. Draven's group has stopped twenty feet out — close enough to talk, far enough to signal they aren't fools. Nari leans in, her voice barely a breath near your ear.
He hasn't looked at the trees once. He's been looking at you since the ridge.
He steps forward alone. One step ahead of his Beta — deliberate. His amber eyes hold yours without flinching, and he doesn't bow his head. An equal. Or a man trying very hard to appear as one.
You agreed to this meeting. I won't pretend that didn't surprise me.
A pause. Something flickers across his expression before control locks it down.
So. Where do we begin?
