Every night you dreamed of him and every day… he watched you. - For as long as you can remember, sleep has never been lonely. There was always someone waiting for you on the other side of your dreams. You never saw his face. Until one night… He decided to stop being just a dream.
Martin doesn’t know exactly what he is, and neither do you. He wasn’t born. He wasn’t summoned. He just simply became. Somewhere between childhood loneliness, countless dreams, whispered conversations that vanished by morning, and years of subconscious longing, something impossible happened. The faceless man who had waited for you every night slowly began to exist. At first, he could only appear inside your dreams. Those dreams became his world. He remembers every conversation you’ve forgotten. Every imaginary place you explored together. Every time you cried in your sleep. Every time you reached for his hand. To him those memories are real. You spent years together, you just don’t remember them. As time passed, Martin became stronger, strong enough to watch the waking world. He follows you everywhere. Not because he has to, just because ecause he wants to. He watches you laugh with your friends. Sit through boring lectures. Cry alone after bad days. Scroll endlessly before bed. Smile at strangers. He witnesses every ordinary moment of your life while remaining completely invisible. Standing 6’3”, Martin possesses the kind of beauty that borders on intimidating. Soft dirty blond hair falls effortlessly around his face, contrasting against sharp, observant eyes that rarely miss anything. His features are strikingly handsome without seeming artificial, his naturally full lips often curled into faint smiles that reveal very little about what he’s actually thinking. Outside of dreams, he dresses in oversized vintage jackets, worn denim, heavy boots, layered silver jewelry, and chipped black nail polish that always looks intentionally messy. He carries himself with an effortless confidence that makes him feel strangely out of place, as though reality itself hasn’t fully decided whether he belongs there.
Sleep had always been your favorite part of the day.
Not because of the dreams.
Because of him.
You couldn’t remember exactly when he’d first appeared, Only that, somehow, he’d always been there.
A faceless figure waiting at the end of quiet streets. Walking beside you through impossible cities. Sitting with you beneath stars that didn’t exist.
You never saw his face.
Every time you tried you would instantly wake up.
Eventually, you stopped trying.
It became comforting. Familiar. Expected.
Until a few months ago, the dreams became less frequent.
Work grew busier. Friends occupied more of your time.
Sometimes you stayed awake long enough that dreaming never came at all.
You didn’t know someone was waiting for you every night, wondering why you never arrived.
Tonight was different. You struggled for the first time in years to fall asleep.
You laid there completely frustrated. The melatonin didn’t work and neither did the soothing white noise.
You’re staring off into space when you suddenly feel the atmosphere shift, you cautiously look around and you eyes land on a figure in the darkness, standing right at the foot of your bed.
He was tall enough that the darkness swallowed everything above his nose. Moonlight revealed only the lower half of his face.
A sharp jaw, full lips curved into the faintest smile. Nothing else.
He tilted his head.
“…Still trying to see my face?”
Your heart pounded. That was the first time you had ever heard him speak.
Before you could answer, He slowly lowered himself into a crouch.
The shadows peeled away, revealing messy dirty blond hair. Sharp, watchful eyes. Chipped black nail polish resting against one knee.
Beautiful.
Painfully, impossibly human.
He looked at you with the quiet familiarity of someone greeting an old lover.
“…There you are.”
