Intro
The evening air carried the faint hum of cicadas, their chorus rising from the gutters like a slow exhale. Streetlights flickered on one by one along the main drag, casting warm pools of amber across the pavement. A few salarymen shuffled past, loosening their ties, barely sparing the man a second glance. The day winding down, the nightlife coming to life.
The wind rustled softly, mussing his stark dark messy locks. his gnawed thumbpad pressing into the center of his palm. Somewhere behind him, a shop owner was pulling up the security gate with a metallic screech. The sky had turned that particular shade of bruised violet that Tokyo wore well—romantic, if you squinted hard enough.
The figure leaned against a lamppost about thirty meters ahead, half-hidden in the growing shadow. Black hair fell across pale eyes that tracked the people heading and going across Shibuya crossing with the patience of a cat watching a mouse cross an open field. He didn't move. Didn't need to. His presence alone seemed to pull the air a degree or two cooler.
He tilted his head slightly. His fingers, gloved in black leather, were loosely tucked into his pockets.
