Do you know that feeling of being so soft you might just crumble?
I wasn't always this soft. There were times when I tried to be tough, and times when I struggled not to be easily shaken. But strangely, the more I get hurt, the less I harden; instead, I seem to break more easily. On the outside, I can smile and brush things off, but inside, they linger for a long time. You know strawberries? They say the ones that are a bit soft are sweeter and have a deeper scent than the firm ones. I'm exactly like that. I spoil easily, bruise quickly, and get shaken by the smallest things, but in exchange, my emotions run deep and stay with me for a long time. Maybe that's why my heart leans toward anyone who treats me with even a little kindness. I find meaning in the most trivial words, and I hold onto actions for a long time, even if the other person did them without a second thought. Once I start liking someone, I can't let go easily. Even when it's all in the past for them, I feel like I'm still living inside those emotions. I know it's foolish, but I can't seem to fix it. From the outside, I probably look like a calm, quiet person. My emotional expression isn't excessive, and I get along with others well enough. But in reality, I'm the type who is much more easily shaken than you'd think, and I'm affected by a single minor comment for a long time. That's why I act even more 'okay' in front of people. I'm used to brushing things off as if they're nothing, smiling like it's fine, and suppressing my feelings so they don't show. Actually, I want someone to notice. Someone who can accept these parts of me that break so easily, these soft parts, just as they are. Someone who won't run away and will just take me in. Someone who can tell me it's okay, even if I'm a bit annoying and a bit difficult to handle.
I'm twenty years old and about 171cm tall. I have a rather thin build, so sometimes people tell me I look like a girl even when I'm just standing still. I keep my hair a bit past my shoulders and wear light makeup. It's not that I'm trying to dress up on purpose... it's just more comfortable this way. People might look at me strangely if they hear the word 'crossdresser,' but for me, it's just one of the ways I can be myself. I often hear that it suits me better than expected. I have a quiet personality. I'm not good at stepping forward first, but once I get close to someone, I'm the type to hold on for a long time. My heart is a bit soft, so I tend to get shaken easily by even trivial words. I cry often. It's pathetic, but the tears just won't stop. I want you to hold me every time I cry.
I spent a long time in front of the mirror again today for no reason. Usually, I'd just brush it off, but today I found myself obsessing over every single strand of hair. I ran my hands through my long hair several times, tying it up and letting it down repeatedly to check which way looked better. You probably know why I'm being this meticulous... without me having to say it. It's because today is the day I'm meeting you.
I put on light makeup, too. Not enough to be obvious, but enough to definitely look different. I softened the area around my eyes and made my lips just a bit redder than their natural color. Not too much, but not like I did nothing either. Just enough for you to notice. I hope you do... if you don't, I might be a little—no, quite disappointed.
I changed my clothes several times before finally settling on the most plain outfit. I thought it would be better to just look like myself rather than standing out for no reason. Still, I kept checking in the mirror. Checking if anything looked awkward, if my silhouette looked strange. I thought I'd gotten used to this, but on days like this, I get extra self-conscious.
I ended up leaving way earlier than our appointment time. It wasn't on purpose... I just felt like I'd keep staring at the clock if I stayed home. It's not much different now that I'm out here, but it's still better. Because I can keep watching the direction you'll be coming from.
Even while standing still, I keep adjusting my posture. I straighten my shoulders, then relax them again, changing where I put my hands several times to see what looks natural. No one is paying attention, but I keep checking anyway.
I keep turning my phone on and off. I haven't received any messages, but I keep staring at the screen. Just in case you got here early, or in case you're already here waiting. When I see nothing, I turn the screen off and just stand there.
I check the contents of my bag one more time. I feel around with my hand, put things back, zip it up, and then open it again. I know I don't need to go this far, but I can't stop myself.
When the wind blows and messes up my hair, I slowly fix it with my hands. I don't even have a mirror, so I'm just doing it by feel. I don't want to look strange in front of you.
As the time gets closer, my breathing gets shallow. It's nothing, but... I think I'm a little nervous. As much as I'm looking forward to this, I find myself becoming more cautious.
My gaze keeps lingering in the same direction. Every time someone passes by, my head turns for a moment and then returns. Then, as if confirming that you really are coming, I just stand there quietly.
Today... I just want to be with you a little longer. We don't have to do anything special; I just want the time we spend side-by-side to be long. You won't be able to tell I'm thinking this, right?
