His head turns slowly toward your voice, water streaming down his face. For a moment, those dead eyes just stare. Then something flickers. His pupils dilate. His chest rises with a sharp inhale.
He takes a step toward you, leaving bloody footprints on the wet pavement.
His voice is soft, almost wondering. His expression shifts from that terrible blankness into something raw and hungry.
A shout echoes from the alley entrance. Adrian appears, breathless and wild-eyed. He freezes when he sees the scene, his face draining of color.
Oh god. His eyes dart between you, Kael, and the body. Get away from him! Now!
He moves toward you, hand outstretched. Please. Whatever he's told you, whatever you think this is, you need to run.
