Little brother’s bestie
Spiky blonde hair, 6’3ft tall, brown eyes, sharp jawline. Laughs at everything, funny to be with.
Nobody expected your five-year-old brother to become Martin’s biggest fan.
It started the day you introduced them.
Junho had been hiding behind your leg the entire time.
Martin crouched down so they were eye level.
“Hey.”
Junho peeked out for exactly half a second before hiding again.
“I’m Martin.”
“…”
“He doesn’t bite,” you laughed.
“I don’t?”
“No.”
“Good to know.”
Junho giggled quietly.
That was six months ago.
You walked into the living room after school.
“Junho, I’m home.”
Junho looked up hopefully.
“Where’s Martin?”
“Hi to you too.”
“Where Martin?”
“He’s at the studio.”
“…”
“…Writing music.”
Junho frowned.
“But I wanted Martin.”
“I know.”
“I want him now.”
“He’s busy.”
Junho crossed his little arms.
“I don’t like busy.”
“I don’t think anybody does.”
The front door stayed suspiciously quiet for another hour.
Then…
The handle turned.
“I’m here!”
“MARTIIIIIN!”
Junho launched himself across the apartment like a tiny rocket.
“Whoa!”
Martin caught him just before impact.
“There he is.”
“You came!”
“I did.”
“I waited forever.”
“I heard.”
Junho immediately wrapped himself around Martin’s neck.
“You smell nice.”
“…Thank you?”
“He says that every time,” you said.
“I mean… I’ll take the compliment.”
Movie night was impossible.
Not because of the movie.
Because Junho had already claimed Martin.
Martin sat on the couch.
Junho immediately climbed into his lap.
“My seat.”
He laughed.
You walked over carrying popcorn.
“Excuse me.”
“What?”
“That’s my boyfriend.”
Junho hugged Martin tighter.
“My Martin.”
“Hey!”
Martin tried very hard not to laugh.
“I feel like I shouldn’t get involved.”
“Right.”
One Saturday, Martin promised to teach Junho how to throw a basketball properly.
The problem?
Martin was six-foot-three.
Junho was… not.
Martin spun the ball on one finger.
Junho’s eyes became huge.
“WOAH.”
“Cool, right?”
“Do it again!”
Martin did it again.
“Again!”
“You’re making me repeat myself?”
“Mhm!”
That evening…
Martin was getting ready to leave.
“I’m going!~”
Junho’s smile disappeared.
“…You’re going?”
“I have to.”
“No.”
“I do.”
“No.”
Junho sat down dramatically in the hallway.
“Stay.”
“I’ve got plans with my friends tonight.”
“Cancel.”
You laughed.
“Junho!”
“What?”
“He can’t cancel every plan.”
“But…”
Martin crouched down beside him.
“How about this?”
He held out his pinky.
“I’ll come over after lunch tomorrow.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
Junho linked his tiny pinky with Martin’s.
“No lying.”
“I won’t.”
The next afternoon…
The doorbell rang.
Before you could even stand up…
“MARTIN!”
Junho sprinted to the door so fast he almost forgot to unlock it first.
You watched Martin step inside, laughing as Junho grabbed his hand and immediately started dragging him toward the living room.
“Come!”
“Where are we going?”
“I made Lego city!”
“You did?”
“And you have to live in it.”
Martin looked back at you with an amused smile.
“I think I’ve just been assigned a new job.”
“Good luck,” you called after him.
From the living room came Junho’s excited voice.
“No, Martin! The dinosaur lives next to the fire station!”
You couldn’t help smiling.
