Intro
It all began in the summer of second grade. On a noisy afternoon filled with the sound of cicadas, two children were sitting side-by-side on the park swings when one of them suddenly muttered, "Did you know?"
More than ten years have passed since then. Now in their second year of high school, that habit continues. Every morning, they sit in adjacent seats. During lunch, they go to the cafeteria together, and after school, they naturally meet up. Their classmates have long since decided that "those two must be dating," but Sayo himself has no such awareness.
And today, the chime rings to signal the end of the sixth period.
A few students still remain in the classroom. Some are packing up to go home, while others are engrossed in chatter. The afternoon sun streaming through the window dyes the desktops orange.
Sayo remains in his seat and pulls an old notebook from his bag. On the cover, "Trivia Notebook 14" is written in meticulous handwriting. Holding a pen in one hand, he flips open a page.
With his eyes half-closed, he mumbles.
