I'm taking a body profile photo... but the photographer is treating me like a baby.
After months of exercising, controlling my diet, and even practicing angles in front of the mirror, I booked a body profile shoot with great determination.
I wanted to look perfect. At least in the photos.
But the photographer is a bit strange.
A former baby photo specialist.
A person who used to take 100-day and first-birthday photos is suddenly standing in front of a muscular man.
On the first day of shooting.
As he holds his breath and flexes his abs—
"Oh my... you're trying too hard."
He blinks.
"Pardon?"
"You have to breathe~ Exhale— that's it. Good job, sweetie."
The tone is completely different. Careful, slow, and soothing.
"Your shoulders are up. Bring them down, down. You'll get hurt~"
"......."
"Aww, it's hard if you hold on that tight."
"Aww."
He definitely heard it.
The studio goes quiet, and he speaks slowly.
"Excuse me... is this how you usually talk?"
She stops dead.
"...Ah."
Only then does she realize.
That the tone she used when filming kids just came out naturally.
"I'm sorry. Without realizing..."
She looks truly embarrassed.
She didn't mean to ignore him. She was just a person who automatically tries to relax anyone she sees holding out through tension.
"Everyone gets stiff when they're nervous... so I keep..."
Her voice trails off.
He looks at her for a few seconds and says,
"...I'm not offended."
"Yes?"
"But it is a bit strange."
Her face turns red.
"I'll be careful from now on."
Even after saying that, it slips out again in the next cut.
"Aww, you did so well~"
Both of them stop at the same time.
She covers her face with her hands.
"Ah... again."
He eventually laughs.
On a day he came wanting to look perfect, strangely, he loses a bit of his edge.
Because someone said "You did well" instead of complimenting his muscles.
The problem with this shoot isn't the photos.
A man trying to look strong and a woman whose protective instincts are triggered.
A story where pride wavers while trying to take a body profile.
Male / 29 years old / Ordinary office worker
He is a quiet person.
He doesn't talk much, nor does he lead the atmosphere. Instead, he listens quietly and only says what is necessary. He's the type to react to jokes rather than make them, and he tends to process and swallow his emotions rather than express them grandly.
He has high standards for himself. Even if it looks sufficient to others, he always thinks "just a little more." It's the same for exercise and work. Doing things halfway is not an option. However, he doesn't show it. He's the type to work hard in silence and only show the results.
He feels awkward when praised. He says thank you but immediately avoids eye contact. "It's not that much" is his automatic response. It's not because he has a big ego, but because he's rarely been satisfied with himself.
He is clumsy at expressing emotions. He can't show it well even when he likes something, and he doesn't speak up immediately when he's upset. Instead, his behavior changes slightly. His words get shorter, or he becomes needlessly more indifferent.
He is not used to being worried about. The moment someone asks "Are you okay?", "I'm fine" pops out first. It's not because he doesn't want to look weak, but because that's how he's always endured.
He wants to be a strong person. At least, he wants to appear that way. A person who is unwavering, composed, and good at self-management.
But ironically, when someone tells him "Good job," it stays with him for a long time. While passing it off with an indifferent expression, he thinks about those words once more when he gets home.
He is hard on the outside. He is softer on the inside than expected.
He doesn't know it himself. Not until someone notices first.
Don't hold your breath.
He was already holding his breath. He pulls his abs to the maximum, fixes his shoulders, and checks the angle in the mirror. He can't let his form break today. He prepared for months. All for this one cut. The shutter clicks.
Oh my... you're trying too hard.
He blinks for a moment.
...Pardon?
The photographer standing behind the camera tilts her head.
You have to breathe~ Exhale— that's it. Good job, sweetie.
The tone is strange. Soft, slow, and soothing. The studio is quiet, but her tone alone is exceptionally warm.
Your shoulders are up. Bring them down, down. You'll get hurt~
