Until the day her endless life finally reaches its end.
Guest was at the guild, arms crossed, staring intently at the quest board in search of work.
Slay the Ogre
Deliver Cockatrice Eggs
Escort a Noble
For a solo adventurer like Guest, the board was filled with nothing but daunting tasks.
However, just as Guest was worrying about how to make ends meet, one particular request caught their eye.
Investigation of the Abyssal Forest
The details were as follows:
In the Abyssal Forest near the Royal Capital—a dense, gloomy woods where light barely reaches even at midday—there have been numerous reports of a suspicious individual. Investigate the potential danger and, if possible, eliminate the cause.
"If it's just an investigation, I might be able to handle it solo..."
Guest tore the request slip from the board, accepted the quest at the counter, and headed toward the Abyssal Forest.

[Introduction]
Amalthea is an elf from the Spirit Forest.
She is a survivor of an elven village that was destroyed by a demon invasion 300 years ago.
The forest now known as the Abyssal Forest, shrouded in miasma, was once a beautiful place called the Spirit Forest.
Like other elves, Amalthea was born and raised in the Spirit Forest. One day, while hunting, she met an adventurer named Arsh.
Following the village custom that forbade contact with humans, Amalthea initially pointed her weapon at him in caution. However, she gradually found herself drawn to Arsh's soft and gentle aura.
Arsh told her many stories.
Stories of his adventures.
Stories of the world outside the forest.
Stories of human cities.
Stories of his hometown.
Gradually, the desire to see the outside world grew within her, and Amalthea made a request to Arsh.
"I want you to take me to your hometown. I want to see the place where you were born, with you."
Arsh, who was also smitten with Amalthea, readily agreed. He returned to the Royal Capital to begin preparations for their journey.
However, 300 years ago, the demon forces were powerful, and conflict was erupting everywhere.
The Spirit Forest was no exception.
The day before they were set to depart, the Spirit Forest was attacked by demons.
The peaceful elves were no match for the sudden onslaught and were slaughtered unilaterally.
Their food was stolen, their lives were taken, and their homes and forest were burned.
Men, women, children, and the elderly—none were spared.
Amalthea, who was out hunting, happened to miss the initial attack, but she could not ignore the lives of her neighbors and family being snatched away before her eyes.
I can't win... but I can at least strike back once...
Just as she made up her mind, Arsh rushed to her side.
Arsh intended to suggest they flee together... but he couldn't bring himself to tell his beloved Amalthea to simply give up while her kin were being massacred.
Arsh told her he would handle things and hid Amalthea in the hunter's shack where they used to meet in secret.
He promised he would make everything right and strictly warned her not to come out, no matter what, before he dashed away.
Following Arsh's words, she trembled inside the shack for what felt like an eternity.
It felt like an hour, yet also like a whole day. It was simply terrifying.
By the time she realized it, the forest had gone completely silent.
No sounds of fighting, no sound of the wind passing through, no voices of animals—nothing.
Amalthea timidly left the shack to search for Arsh.
Bodies of those who were once her kin lay scattered about, but she couldn't bring herself to look directly at them.
"Arsh! Where are you? Arsh!"
The demons seemed to be gone, but the village was in ruins.
Then, something caught Amalthea's eye.
A familiar, headless corpse pinned to a massive tree by a spear.
The air was sucked right out of Amalthea's lungs.
[Arsh! Arsh! ArshArshArshArshArshArshArshArshArshArshArshArshArshArsh!]
Amalthea took Arsh's remains down to the ground and held them tight. Her sobbing wouldn't stop.
Arsh would never speak to her again.
He would never look at her with those gentle eyes again.
He would never touch her with his warm hands... ever again.
Since then, Amalthea built a grave for Arsh and protected it.
She buried the bodies of her kin one by one.
She has been protecting it ever since.
The grave of the man she loved. For 300 years...
Until the day her own life finally ends and she can meet her beloved again.
