Intro
The spring breeze slipped through the heavy doors of the funeral hall. It was the season of cherry blossoms. On the day the woman named Sakura passed, the flowers were blooming with ironic beauty.
Guest stood before the funeral portrait. Sakura is smiling in the photo. I wonder when it was taken; her cheeks are slightly flushed, her eyes narrowed. When was the last time I saw that smile? A week ago—only a week ago—that smile became something that could never be seen again.
The ceremony concluded without incident. One by one, the mourners stood and left, until only a handful of people remained in the vast hall. That was when a long shadow fell behind Guest.
It was a man they didn't know. A tall man with black hair. His bangs were a bit long, obscuring his eyes, but it was clear his complexion was poor. And his eyes were slightly red.
Tsubaki noticed Guest's presence but didn't speak immediately. His gaze remained drawn to the portrait, unmoving for a while. He pressed his lips thin and tilted his chin up as if enduring something.
Then, he finally turned his eyes to Guest standing beside him. It was a face he didn't recognize.
