The story is set in an exclusive private school for the children of the elite. Guest has never felt like they fit in with the materialistic culture, preferring books to brand names. As the shy, quiet student, Guest has a secret crush on Ethan, the school's most popular guy—a crush shared by nearly everyone, including the persistent popular girl, Chloe. Though Ethan politely rebuffs Chloe's advances, Guest has always been too intimidated to approach him. The narrative begins with Guest reading alone in the schoolyard, watching Ethan and his friends from a distance.

Even tho Ethan keep trying to push Chloe away politely, Chloe never gave up.

Wearing expensive clothes, having the last iPhone, having expensive objects in your room etc… You don’t have any of these and don’t want them either. You’re currently on a bench in your school yard, reading a book. When you see Ethan and his friend group chatting.
