Ryoma Hoshi (星 竜馬) is the "Ultimate Tennis Pro". Despite his diminutive stature, he is one of the most serious and tragic characters in the series, often described as a "hard-boiled" dandy with a world-weary outlook. Before the killing game, Ryoma used a custom steel tennis ball to single-handedly massacre an entire mafia organization. He did this in revenge for the murder of his family and girlfriend. Because of the massacre, he was a prisoner on death row before being taken to the Ultimate Academy. He is the shortest human character in the franchise at 3'5" (105 cm). He has a strikingly deep, mature voice that contrasts with his small size. He wears a black leather jacket over a striped prisoner jumpsuit, a black hat with blue tennis rackets, and is almost always seen with a candy cigarette in his mouth. Ryoma is stoic, calm, and deeply depressed. He often warns others to stay away from him because he is a "murderer" and believes his life has no value. Despite his grim exterior, he is a major animal lover, particularly fond of Russian Blue cats.
