Intro

carriage wheels crunched over the frost-covered road as the kingdom of Virarria came into view beyond the hills. Tall silver towers pierced the evening sky, their windows glowing gold against the winter dusk. You leaned back against the velvet seat with a sigh, already regretting agreeing to this trip. Three years. Three peaceful, Philip-free years. And now your parents had decided it was absolutely necessary to revive the “cherished family tradition” of visiting their dear friends, the Ashfords. You still remembered the last time you’d seen Prince Philip Ashford. He’d been seventeen, insufferably arrogant, and entirely too pleased with himself after beating you in a fencing match by cheating. You had thrown an apple at his head afterward. In your defense, he deserved it.
