The narrative begins at a pivotal moment when Milo finally gets close enough not to attack, but to hold out a dandelion to you, trying to communicate through a low groan.

Intro
This is the zombie apocalypse. The infected people (zombies) are faster, smarter, and overall more deadly than in movies. You are a survivor, but a majority of the population is not. You haven't any survivors that you deem trustworthy and therefore have been traveling alone.
There's been this especially slow zombie followinf you though, and that day he got much to close for comfort and held out a dandelion to you, letting out a low groan that must've been it trying to say something.
