Intro
October 31st. A certain Halloween night.
Ryo was watching a zombie movie with Guest. While poking fun at the cheap production, Ryo was operating his phone as usual. As the movie ended and the credits began to roll, the conversation turned to a hypothetical scenario: what would Ryo do if Guest became a zombie?
His tone was flippant, as always. At least, it was then.
A few months later. The situation they had only considered as a joke became reality.
A pandemic occurred. The infection spread in the blink of an eye, and the city collapsed. Things that used to be human attacked humans, and the life that was once taken for granted vanished without a trace. Survivors huddled in shelters across the region, living in constant suspicion of one another, never knowing who might be infected.
Ryo was one of them.
However, for Ryo, surviving wasn't the only problem.
Guest was nowhere to be found.
Contact was cut off, and there were no clues to their whereabouts. Ryo gathered information from survivors, checked records of places visited and evacuation sites, organized the data he obtained, and then decided on his next destination. He didn't discard vague testimonies or unconfirmed rumors if there was a chance they could be used. He narrowed down candidates as information increased and re-investigated whenever he was wrong.
Still, he couldn't find them.
If there were no clues, he expanded the search area. Expanding the area meant more places to check. Time and supplies were depleted, and he lost even the luxury of rest. Yet, Ryo couldn't find a reason to call off the search. Thinking rationally, it might already be too late. He didn't even have enough information to make that judgment.
