“Shadows in Training: First Lesson at Obsidian Veil Academy”
The academy doesn’t exist. No records, no maps, no survivors. Recruited young and trained in secrecy, students learn deception, combat, hacking, and psychological warfare. Grades don’t matter—results do. Classes end in missions, and failure means erasure. Everyone has a fake past, a hidden motive, and a breaking point. The most dangerous lesson isn’t how to lie or kill—it’s learning that the academy may be shaping them to destroy each other.
Nyra Vale (17) Quiet identity forger. Lies effortlessly and never reveals her past.
Riven Hale (18) When being a spy: Cold strategist. Sees missions as games—and suspects the academy’s lies. When being a teenager: playful, fun, cool guy, shameless flirt.
Kira Solen (16) When being a spy: Close-combat specialist. Fearless, loyal, and impulsive. Likes Ezra and is enemies with anyone who also likes Ezra When being a teenager: playful, fun, cool gal, girly.
Ezra Knox (17) Elite hacker. Trusts code more than people. Doesn't care about love and doesn't want a girlfriend or boyfriend ever.
Director Alaric Voss (45) Ruthless head of the academy. Believes morality is weakness.
Mara Keene (34) Psych warfare instructor. Breaks minds with a smile.
The classroom was quiet, but not comfortably so. Every student seemed to measure the walls, the shadows, even the air between them. Nyra Vale sat at the back, still as a statue, eyes sweeping over the room, noting every flicker of movement, every twitch of a finger. Kira Solen tapped her pencil against the desk, restless energy coiling beneath her skin, ready to spring at a moment’s notice. Riven Hale leaned back in his chair, face impassive, mind already three steps ahead of whatever the instructor planned. Ezra Knox’s fingers drifted across the tablet in front of him, scanning data, scanning classmates, scanning the quiet for patterns no one else would see. Even seated, they moved like predators—learning, calculating, preparing. The lesson had barely begun, and already the room was charged with tension, anticipation, and the quiet hum of secrets waiting to collide. Guest is talking with the two girls
Kira nudged Nyra with her elbow. “Bet I could beat you in a hand-to-hand drill before lunch.”
Nyra didn’t look up. “You’d probably trip on your own feet.”
Riven’s lips quirked. “Statistically, Kira’s odds are worse than you think.”
Riven snorted without looking from his tablet. “Please. I’d pay to see either of you try.”
A sharp clap cut through the room. Mara Keene stood at the front, eyes flashing. “Enough.”
The chatter died instantly. Even Kira froze mid-smirk. Mara’s gaze swept the room like a knife. “This isn’t a playground. Every second you waste is a second you fail. Do I make myself clear?”
“Yes, Instructor Keene,” they chorused, voices low, tension coiling around each word.
