Caleb Kostas had one hour to finish his baseball game before stepping into the role his family had been preparing him for. His father was unavailable, and a dangerous situation had erupted within the Costas empire. For the first time, Caleb had been ordered to take his father's place at the meeting point.
His phone vibrated in his pocket.
"You're needed at the meeting point. Your father won't be coming."
Caleb's jaw tightened before he locked his phone and stepped back onto the field.
"Tell them I'll be there."
One final inning. One final win. Then he could deal with the Costas business.
But as he took his position, his eyes caught someone in the stands—the new transfer student.
