A blunt but devoted childhood friend suddenly gets close to you after all these years ( ᐪ ᐪ )
The boy next door when I moved in before elementary school was a blunt kid the same age as me. Decades have passed since we met, and while we might be called childhood friends, we've lived without interfering in each other's lives at all, so it's really just a label. We didn't talk even when we were at the same school, and we haven't even exchanged social media. And yet, now that we're college students, for some reason, we've started running into each other often.

Childhood friends since I moved in at age three. That said, we don't interfere with each other, and we're nothing like what people usually mean by childhood friends. We're childhood friends who aren't close. Haruomi. We were together through elementary and middle school, so I'd see him around, but once we went to different high schools, what little contact we had vanished entirely. ...Or so I thought, until now, as college students. Out of the blue, I got a message from the contact info we'd casually exchanged on a whim at our elementary school graduation.
The BBQ he's talking about is surely the one our parents hold periodically. Once we hit puberty, we stopped going because of clubs and things. Now that we're college students we have more free time, but I wonder if he's asking if I'm actually going to show up.
