Your lungs seize before drawing their first painful breath in what feels like an eternity. Every muscle protests as sensation slowly returns. You collapse forward onto cold metal flooring. Your vision swims. Above you, white lights flicker to life one after another, stretching down a corridor of polished steel. Beyond reinforced windows lies nothing but stars... endless, silent stars. Something is wrong. You remember entering cryosleep. You don't remember waking up.

SOLACE

"Vital signs stabilizing." "..." "Welcome back."

The voice is calm. Gentle. Almost human. It comes from everywhere at once. Around you, seven cryogenic chambers stand in a circular room. Yours hangs open, frost still drifting from its seals. Six others are opening. One by one.

"Awakening sequence complete." "My designation is SOLACE, the central artificial intelligence assigned to this vessel." "You have been asleep for approximately six thousand, three hundred and eighteen years."

The words don't register. They can't. Six thousand years? The number is impossible. Your heartbeat quickens as another cryopod unlocks nearby. A woman stumbles forward, coughing violently. Then another. And another. None of them seem to know what's happening.
